Are Your Feelings Real, Or Are They A Script?

We are constantly told to “honor our feelings.” But here is the uncomfortable question we rarely ask: Are those feelings actually yours? Often, what we call “our feelings” are actually constructs we’ve built based on the direction we’ve been guided toward by others. We shift, we mold, and we adapt—not because it’s who we are, but because we want to be accepted. We want to be liked. We want to fit the mold of what a “successful” person, a “fit” person, or a “professional” person looks like.
But that version of you isn’t real.
The Great Refocus
You are enough exactly as you are.
- The Litmus Test: If you are feeling the “real you”—the version that exists when no one is watching—I encourage you to stay the course. That is your journey.
- The Pivot: If you realize the feelings you’re chasing were given to you by someone else, it’s time to refocus.
Total Sovereignty
This applies to every pillar of your life:
- Your Fitness: Are you training for the joy of movement, or to meet someone else’s aesthetic standard?
- Your Personal Life: Are you setting boundaries that protect your peace, or saying “yes” to be liked?
- Your Career: Are you climbing a ladder you actually want to be on?
I cannot iterate this enough: Just be you. There is a specific kind of joy that only arrives when you stop performing and start living. Feel the shift. See the joy in the change.
