You Need to Hear About Your Excuses

We’ve all been there. Yep, I have. You have your day perfectly planned out. You’ve blocked off time for the gym, planned a healthy meal, or set aside an hour to work on that personal project. Then, reality hits. A work emergency pops up, an obligation runs long, and your schedule is turned upside down.
Your blocked-off time has been invaded. So, you skip it.

You tell yourself it was out of your control. But let’s call it what it really is: a crock.
The Comfort Trap
Fast forward a couple of hours. You’re sitting on the couch, binging a new show, or killing time on your phone. You tell yourself you’re “resting” after a stressful day.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with downtime. We all need a chance to unwind. However, it is entirely within your power to set that relaxation time aside for just 30 minutes to get your fitness or personal growth action in. The time didn’t vanish; your priorities did.

The Snowball Effect of “Skipping”
When you allow a schedule change to dictate your habits, you enter a dangerous cycle. The first time you skip, it feels like a necessary compromise. But the more you skip, the easier it becomes to do it again. You begin to build a tolerance for letting yourself down. You train your brain to believe that your personal growth is negotiable.
“What Happened?”
Months down the line, people often look around in frustration, wondering why they haven’t made progress, why their fitness has slipped, or why their goals feel further away than ever. They ask, “What happened?”
The uncomfortable truth? You happened.
Life will always throw curveballs, and your schedule will always face disruptions. But you are the one holding the remote, and you are the one who decides whether to honor your commitments or honor your excuses.
Next time your day gets hijacked, don’t throw your hands up in defeat. Reclaim your power, adjust your plans, and do the work anyway. Don’t let yourself get in your own way.
