Why You’re Still Waiting to Be Picked

Remember the anxiety of the school playground or the classroom?
We’ve all been there. Sitting on the bleachers or at a desk, desperately wanting to be chosen. You’d raise your hand, waving it with increased motion to catch the teacher’s eye. You’d make that subtle noise to get noticed for the sports team. And if you tried to play it cool, you’d sit there silently using every piece of body language available—a calculated smile, an unnecessary blink of the lashes, pushing your head just a fraction higher—all in the hopes that someone in authority would say, “I pick you.”
We spent our youth begging for validation from the outside world. But the tragedy is that many of us carried that exact same playground anxiety into adulthood. We are still sitting on the sidelines of our own lives, waiting for a promotion, a partner, or a stroke of luck to finally “choose” us.
The Shift: Becoming the Captain

It is time for a repeat performance, but under completely new terms. It’s time to be chosen—but this time, you are the one doing the choosing.
You Are Choosing Yourself
Read that again. Let it sink in. You do not need a green light from anyone else to pursue the life you deserve. You need to look in the mirror and declare yourself the MVP of your own journey.
What Choosing Yourself Looks Like
When you decide to choose yourself, it applies to every single doggone goal you have. There is no area too big or too small for this mindset shift:
- In Fitness: It means trading excuses for execution. You choose your health over temporary comfort.
- In Relationships: It means demanding standard over convenience and surrounding yourself with people who elevate you.
- In Professional Growth: It means investing in your skills and speaking up in rooms where you belong.
- In Everyday Peace: It means prioritizing the simple things—local travel, intentional shopping, or quiet nature walks.
Match Your Actions to Your Ambition
Choosing yourself isn’t just a feel-good sentiment; it’s a call to arms. It means it is time to level up on your actions.
You cannot claim to choose yourself if your daily habits reflect self-sabotage. If you choose victory, your calendar must reflect preparation. If you choose health, your nutrition must reflect discipline.
Let’s go. We are breaking up with the waiting game today. Dust off that relentless energy you had as a kid, look at your goals, and claim them.
Just know this: as I am loudly cheering you on from the sidelines, I am also doing the hard work in the trenches. Because while I am cheering you on, I am also choosing me.
Let’s level up together
