Yes The Small Steps Matter

Small steps matter

Let’s keep it real. How many times have you been told to take the big leap. I know personally I’ve heard this many times. Until I surrounded myself with people of positive mindset and inspiring take up I believed this. Yep those words take the big leap.

Now those words apply to me on fitness and personal level. You plug it in where it is applicable for you. Big leaps are great, but what if at that time you can’t make that big leap. Do you shrug your shoulders and decide immediately next time. I say to you, no and no. Why? Because those small steps and leaps matter. The change be it fitness or personal starts where you are now. Your current status. How

How again, well if it’s fitness, begin small especially if you’ve stop and restarting or just starting. Don’t push yourself. Gradual, consistent workouts be it walking, running, lifting, dance, Pilates, yoga and etc. Believe in you, always I reiterate, “ don’t compare yourself”. It’s okay to be encouraged by others, however if you give 100 percent of your self each time you workout you will get there. Also nutrition, sleep and supplements help. If you need assist in any of these areas email me or go to the contact page and I will respond

Personal, for me is mindset. Mindset will enhance so many areas in your life. Unable to make it to that 1k or 5K seminar understood but don’t make excuses to why your mindset and self improvement hasn’t changed. Save up for the next seminar. In the meantime read motivational books, listen to podcast. Be careful. Every motivational book, speaker or podcast may not be for you. Know which books, speakers podcasts apply to you. Time is precious. Don’t waste it listening to someone first you can’t relate to or don’t understand what the heck they are saying. Yes it is trial and error but be quick on this decision.

When you find that read, those persons be real. It’s a waste of time again if you don’t apply the learning. Be mindful the read, listen may not be 100 percent applicable to you. Use that which is assisting in a greater you.

Love you now today, hug you today for yourself and an extra squeeze for me to you. I believe in you and cheering for your growth.

What Does It Mean To You

Just a question, because I’ve been asked why I write about, fitness, mindset, self love, self care, improving ourselves in a “ healthy fit” blog.

Well I will ask what does healthy fit mean to you. Do you think to complete yourself it is just workouts that make you fit? Allow me a minute here.

Healthy fit includes

  1. Workouts
  2. Mindset – keeping it positive for mental, physical and personal growth
  3. Sleep habits- clarity, refreshing yourself, because every day you are with the opportunity to be great, not to be tired and dragging. Of course sometimes it can’t be helped.
  4. Nutrition- healthy habits doesn’t mean we don’t sometimes indulge just not daily.
  5. Hydration
  6. Fun
  7. Socialization

These are components of being healthy fit as I see it. I am open to any suggestions on your out or in look of healthy fit

Your GPS, How Is It Programmed

There are days we have to use GPS in getting to a location unknown, or once traveled and forgotten. Whether it’s your vehicle or your phone you sometimes need it. Now …..

What about your personal GPS? Have you programmed it? Where are you going , the roads you are traveling. Just as the roads of driving curves, go straight sometimes hills, narrow lanes so will your personal GPS. If you’re still on the path to your Greatness, that destination. What’s your route? If the directions (actions you once decided on), is taking you out that’s okay.

The reason it’s okay because you now realize it and have the opportunity to reprogram it. Reprogram yourself. Make certain your destination is for you and your decision. The destination that allows you to be you, be there for those you love and the life and lifestyle you want.

Okay, now set your GPS, recalibrate and get to moving. Brummell

Did You Ever Do …..

Let’s see, how about a through back to a game that to me didn’t make a lot of sense. But as kids we’d play it and laugh while running around, falling on the ground and stand in line or a circle just depends.

What’s the game? Wait I’ll get there. Are you laughing just on the anticipation. Not yet. Well reminisce on a childhood moment when the game was outside be it with classmates, neighbor, friends any game. Surely you enjoyed a game.

If not just laugh, it’s good and healthy for you. Relax, release a bit of stress.

Okay the game is Tag. Today I want you to tag yourself in applying all positive energy and actions to move up to higher level of you. Not th level you think you should be at, or the level someone decided was best for you nor the level you’ve achieved too prove you could actually do it. NOPE how about the level above any of these. Okay

Now get to applying those actions

It’s Not Instant

True, it’s not instant. I had an individual, by the way was only 2 weeks in on her new fitness program: no shade intended here, no names just being real, wanting to stop her workouts because there was no “visual” change.

People, really. Why do we get upset and I was once guilty of this also, when we don’t see immediate change in our physique in fitness. To begin our bodies have to adjust, what is your commitment and are you 100 percent into your workouts or are you going through the motion and your nutrition, huh huh, I can’t hear you. Oh, and your body of current change in one week. I’m certain the answer will be no.

If you are new or returning to working out, be it at the gym or streaming, I LOVE streaming for a lot of reasons. Either way you have to slowly or allow your body to become or reacclimate to the routine. Are you committed to the number of days and the length of time? If you commit to 3 X week, do it, choose the days and if you have to change the days that is okay keep the 3X week. If you commit to 20, 30 40 minutes or an hour, make it happen. Now are you using the equipment as should be. For example, if you are able to do bicep curl with 15lbs why are you using 5 lbs.? And if 15 lbs. are too heavy decrease your weights; your body will alert you when to increase because the weight will begin to feel light. Remember it’s your workout your journey, not the individual that just curled with 80(psst they didn’t begin with 80). Are you curling or are you going through the motion and stopping, looking around, instead of 10 or 12 reps you do 3 and move on to another routine. I must have trainer, because I know I need guidance (one of the reasons I stream)

What’s your nutrition, note I used the word nutrition and not diet. Diets are for many temporary and a fix for a certain length of time. Nutrition is adjustment to life forever change. Now please don’t commit to erasing 90% of the foods you currently eat putting your body in starvation mode. I’ll elaborate in another post on “starvation mode”. You can begin slow with calorie deficit. You need nutrition to burn fat, build muscle and improve endurance in workouts. If not, well your workouts will falter.

Listen to your body. If you’re lifting the lift weight will fluctuate; somedays maybe heavier or lighter. This is okay just give it your best. There are a few people with body change within 10 to 14 days. Note “few”. but what about how you feel? Your energy level maybe showing some sign of increase (don’t expect a big jump, applaud the small change because it’s gonna increase). How about that mindset, you’re with greater focus and some of the BS conversation begin to roll off, (yep no longer interested) Now your greatness within is about to climb a ladder to a greater you. By the way these are your non-scale, non-eye seeing victories You know the ones you want instant access to.

I ask of you, PLEASE don’t stop. I’d like you to believe in yourself as I am now believing in you. I ask you to commit, believe and follow the process. We are all different, changes may be quicker for some but if yours is a bit slower enjoy the “non” victories you feel and note about yourself. Others will see those non scale victories and will notice the smallest change in those scale victories. ACCEPT them all.

It’s NOT instant, but it is coming

Are You Still Holding Yourself Captive

I don’t know how to say this any other way but just STOP

I have recently encountered too many conversations of “well when I was a child” or “my parents didn’t allow me to”, “I’ve always been told not to”

Okay. Okay I get it, there are certain things that may have traumatized us as a child, more so embarrassed us. I for certain experienced my share and probably a few of someone else but it didn’t stop me from growing into the person I am now. And you know what? I don’t think it has stopped you. I know you’re AWESOME, just GREAT. But I bet you use those phrases as an excuse and they have been beneficial for you to squeeze out of a tight spot

STOP IT. You are holding your next level of greatness as a hostage to something that happened 100 years ago. I always use 100 years when it’s been a long time ago. It’s a habit. Our parents protected us on what they perceived was rough (and that may have applied at that time). Since the world keeps spinning we have evolved in so many ways.

Stop being held captive of the past. Just do it. If professional counseling is necessary, please get it. I believe in you and I know you too are ready to unleash a higher level of you. And if your negative environment or surroundings are holding you captive it’s time to release yourself from others restraints on you. It’s time

Now get your pen, pencil, paper and write down the actions you need to apply to get out of that captive hold.

Can You Adapt

Adapt to what? I was recently asked how do I manage to workout 5 to 6 days a week and for 1 to 2 hours. To be real some days it’s 30 to 40 minutes, but I am good for the to 6 days a week. And Saturdays are a toss p.

Saturdays are usually a community workout. We gather on zoom and workout from one of our shared programs or we’re live with a trainer. But it’s always a good, sweaty workout. If you’re interested in join in on a Saturday just comment with “Yes” and I will send you the link.

Okay back to how do I do it? Well my workouts are calendared in. I add it to my day. I do have specific times however, there are days I have to move the workout time. But the most important is that I am committed. Once I commit, it is done. I will find that time.

From past experiences, if I don’t commit and use the phrase “perhaps” or maybe; well that’s just how my workouts will be. Maybe today or tomorrow, perhaps I’ll wait to next week, maybe.

My commitment to myself, my fitness is for me. Streaming is beneficial because I choose my time and I can nap after an extended day and then workout. My choice versus the gym, and I love it. That’s my mode, you however should decide which works for you, then commit. Commit to your days, length of time and the time.

I know it seems uh like I can’t, but you can. The beginning maybe a struggle as change is but commit. And then in a few weeks applaud yourself for acing the challenge and keep moving on your fitness journey.

Let It Go

Are you ready to just let it go? What? All the things, habits, people and the community.

It’s so easy to hold on to any of the above because of change, or the feeling of stepping into a new area and for many as I once experienced not wanting to be alone.

However, we grow and elevate ourselves to our next level of GREATNESS. We will have those making us feel guilty for the elevation and telling us many untrue reasons why we shouldn’t or can’t. As we will have those who encourage, motivate, cheer and push us forward.

It’s individualized, you decide and it’s not always easy to do. Just be nice as you address the change with those close and do not understand or are unsupported.

Who Says You Gotta Start Fresh

These are a few tips to beginning a workout, or continue after a break. In addition don’t beat yourself because you’re not where you wast before your break.

Whatever the reason for your break in your routine is respected, however the BIGGEST respect and applaud goes to you for resuming. Don’t allow the temporary setback become a hold up. Keep moving forward

Remember you’re already Great, just about to add the “er” to the great.
