That’s right, change isn’t instant. On my fitness journey I hear this, “what are you doing? How long do you workout? What time do you get up to workout? How many days do you workout? The most common conversation is I need to join you, I think we can do it together don’t you. Of course I always respond I’m delighted and then well it goes down .
Why. Because after I answer the question or questions I then get another response. NO that’s too long, no too many days a week, I can not workout that early. Now I do understand the timing because a few days I am up working out at 3:30 AM or 4. If I say okay I’ll adjust to the evenings the response becomes oh that’s a bit late to workout don’t you think. Perhaps, I guess. Maybe you really don’t want to do this with me, I don’t really say it but the words are in bold, big print in my thoughts.
CHANGE does not come instant if you are looking for change in your fitness help. YOU must first decide you want it and commit. Secondly you may need to make adjustment in your daily schedule. I was one that repeatedly said “ I don’t have the time”. This was partially true. I didn’t have time for the drive to and from the gym but I did have time for home workouts. Not saying gyms are a waste of time, when I had that time I did go to the gym, but sometimes life changes and we have to adjust, I had to adjust.
Adjust and not stop. I did stop and used self satisfying excuses. Home workouts with beachbodyondemand.com have been so rewarding for me, dang it no excuses. Even with home workouts my body’s response fluctuates but there is change. Without commitment to yourself change will not come and then not instantly…..UNLESS you get the surgeon on board then of course it is instant.
Commit to yourself, Change is coming, You just have to open the door and walk in.
That sounds so controversial and I know you’d think no way . Well yes it can. I’m not speaking in the terms of grading or money I’m speaking in giving the best of yourself . For me for now I’m speaking of my workouts. There are days and not consistently but my workouts are not what we say “100” and it maybe a 50 compared to the previous day’s workout; BUT if my energy is down, or I’m fighting off an illness or for no apparent reason a 5 lb weights feels like a 40 lbs. Now with any of these known factor if I give my best I am giving 100.
Just to share as I had this conversation recently if you give your best and not holding back you are a 100. To 100 in each of your workouts as I will continue to give 100 in each of my workout.
NOW what is this suppose to mean well a lot as I am hearing recently from friends, colleagues and a few followers on social media.
I have to start my workouts AGAIN. I need to connect with my trainer AGAIN. I need to join in with you AGAIN. I’m frustrated because I did not see results in the fitness workout, but I’ll start AGAIN. I need to resume working out at the gym AGAIN SOON.
To begin with I know there are curve balls in life and we must adjust. Trust me hear lately I am being pitched a lot of them balls. But just tweak a bit and keep the focus. I have to stay on myself for this one. FOCUS YOU GOT TO STAY FOCUS TO REACH YOUR GOALS, oh that was me speaking aloud to myself.
But in reference to workouts you do have to stay focused. If you have a goal or just enjoy the euphoria feeling received after working out then – STOP starting over.
My workouts some days are challenging especially when my RA is painful and a swollen joint or two. I’ve had followers and friends state they are not sure how or why I workouts with swollen joint, so I want to clarify. I’ve hade RA since childhood and there wasn’t a lot of excuses and believe it or not I am better as an adult than a child with RA. I will never compare my flares with others as everyone’s pain is different as well as how each of us is able to deal with the pain.
I really try not to allow my pain unless it is severe dictate my day, so that is why I use a towel. That is my workout towel on my exercise mat. I use it for extra cushion for my left thumb. There are days I am unable to put pressure on my left hand . If I try I am fallling over , slipping because my balance is off. BUT with the extra cushion it really decreases the pressure and impact of my weight on the left hand and I can do my workout without laughing at myself. Yes I do that too and so would you if you saw a rep without the towel. Now I also use the towel at times for the right knee but not often.
I just want to share if you really want to workout there is a way to adjust and sometimes you have to be created for yourself. Of course I do not recommend anyone to push themselves beyond their level of comfort or safety- KNOW YOUR LIMITS. I know mine. And for now the towel works.
To a week of pushing through and not allowing RA always dictate our next moves in working out. If you have a deficit of any kind I am saluting you too- Adjust and Push through. WE GOT THIS.
My fitness journey has hills, mountains, winding roads, slopes, gravel and smooth surface. I encounter them all and my lesson which I have to focus on is “Stay Committed “.
Having a relationship with myself, just slain for knowing your mindset and your weakness; I know mine most of them when it comes to working out. I know if I come to a complete halt in my workouts for greater than two days, I’m setting myself up for a failure or probably a hard restart. With this said I encountered an almost halt on my workouts today.
My fitness journey is me following a workout and calendar and sometimes as I am now for the next several days combining two workouts. Today I increased weights, jumped higher, lunged lower and just put on a “you got this show”. I was all in and when it came to my second workout my muscles were burning. The energy was still there but I didn’t want to push through to injury or super exhaustion, I’ve been there. What did I do? Well there is a modifier in my workouts and I followed the modifier for half of my second workout then I was able to return to normal workout.
Modifying does not make it easier, you still have to push hard and give it your best or “100”. It just mean a decrease in your lunge, or decrease in your jump maybe a bounce. There are many who think modifying is for beginners or those testing the waters of a workout. All FALSE. Now I know because I’ve heard I wouldn’t want to modify any workout, I’d rather wait until I can do it for the ultimate gain.
I will not bash, trash or argue the “wait”, but will you start. I will continue to reiterate. First make a decision that you really want to make a change (I’m talking about workouts but it can apply to any goals in life). Ready for the change then COMMIT . This is why I modified and why I push through. I am committed to my fitness journey whether my results are slow or fast because without the commitment my results will be, oh yeah I will not have any results.
To weeks of commitment to yourself and to your goals as I am.
It was just one day and that day was Monday – Memorial Day, I decided to skip my workout, but I did my steps in moving about but again I skipped my workout. I did not feel guilty but my body is so programmed I noticed a change in energy.
Tuesday’s workout was good, no great but I had to push myself since it was so easy to skip Monday’s workout. Now there are times when my schedule change and life throws us curves that we have to make adjustments. However being committed and focusing on goals, for me its “my fitness journey”. Just a share if you’re not committed you can make an excuse everyday that will deter your goals.
What the heck am I saying, well it’s easy stay committed to your goals, even if you get off course for one day and maybe two but don’t make it an end.
This is a question I was recently asked ” How do you know what’s the best workout”. Sadly I could not answer the question. Now don’t get startled before I share my reason.
I believe all workouts are “The Best”, yes I do. Now the concerns are is the workout for you, the intensity – too much or too little. If it’s weights are you able to use weights and most people are. Let me pause you can use 3 pound weights until they feel like 1 pound for as long as you like. You do not have to increase because the trainer or it is recommended. For certain EVERY trainer wants you to be safe, the gains will come.
Best workouts really depends on the relationship you have with your body and mindset. You know your limits when you’ve exceeded or have not given your 100. NOW the biggest challenge is YOUR COMMITMENT. If you are NOT committed to follow through with a trainer whether it is at the gym or like me using the trainers on BEACHBODYONDEMAND my favorite at home workout for unlimited positive reasons, your response to the workout may be negative BUT the blame is ???
Follow through means the entire program because response to workouts vary among all of us and for certain 2 days or 1 week may not or only show a small response. Follow through also means adhering to the nutrition (I still struggle sometimes with nutrition). Follow through means being aware of the non scale victories- inches lost, feeling good about yourself, the extra rep or two you can perform, weights increased on a workout, increased positive response to life.
Discover YOUR Best workout begin and or continue because I think you are AWESOME.
My Past – I have experienced weight fluctuations, size fluctuations. I’ve experienced almost every eating disorder known. I was concerned and didn’t know how to handle when I was disliked by family, friends and yes even foes, I thought I had to appease so many. I allowed myself to be taken advantage of. BUT I continued to workout always a fitness junkie but there are eliminations for success in fitness.
You can not be physical engaged in any fitness and expect an outcome to be proud of with an eating disorder which will eventually affect your health. I was blessed to only experience small bouts of anemia that only required Iron injections. Appeasing others brings on stress and I was stressed 85% of the time. Stress hinders a great response to any fitness and I neglected myself a lot.
My Present -& My Future -Today change and implementations is helping me to a proud future. That future begins at 1200 AM everyday. I workout to be strong, fit, healthy- NOT THIN. I’ve experienced the thin and the torture I did to my body was and is not an easy recovery.
I love family, friends and have learned to love but cautious of the frienemy, but no longer allow intimidation, words of negativity, nonsupport and abuse (which comes in many ways) have a value. I LOVE MYSELF, Yes . My journey to fitness is for my health, joy and loving all the GREAT aspect of life- THE FUTURE- MY FUTURE.
My fitness journey like so many has ups and down but there is one thing I know for certain it is necessary for me to combine my workouts with cardio and weights.
It took me awhile to like weights, what got me interested? There are a several reasons :
1. With my history of eating disorder it has assisted (not solely) in increasing my metabolism.
2. Weights has assisted me in giving shape to legs, arms and (in the works) lift that butt and the boobs.
3. I feel stronger also.
Now for the cardio- endurance, fat burning but so are weights, toning and leaning out muscles. By the way it took me a minute to realize with continuous weight training and no cardio, my muscles become define and contracted that it shorten my stretching another reason to combine the both.
All of my reasons for the combination which I am certain I have left out a few, these are my REASONS and may or may not apply to anyone else.
To a week of workouts, choose what works best for you and go get it.
Hi there I’m uncertain if I have used the correct title on this blog, not at all. Simply put I am not neglecting myself by all means but I am neglecting my support.
As I travel and it is travel on my fitness journey, I see how so many of my friends, family, coworkers and just sometimes those occasional associates are so unsupported. Nothing positive, join a challenge group with you? What? This is a foreign or forbidden term, give positive support, are you CRAZY ?. However I get emails to support their goals, or a challenge, listen to voice messages or texts for support. I have responded willingly because YES I do want the best for you however I DO NOT value your goals GREATER than mine.
This has pressured my conscious thinking for while and I had to realize I have allowed my goals to be devalued. Yes I will continue my journey with or without your support and I am hoping you can also do the same without mine.
To those on a fitness journey without the support of those so close and near, look ahead, keep up your pace, you are not alone. To a week of achieving greatness.
